COVID Vaccine FAQs

  1. When will the medical center begin giving COVID-19 vaccines? All SDHS medical locations  are now scheduling COVID vaccine appointments for people who are in group 1b.
  2. Who is group 1 b?
    • Persons over 65 years of age
    • Persons age 18yrs-64yrs with certain underlying illnesses
    • Police, Fire, Hazmat
    • Corrections and homeless shelter workers
    • Childcare/K-12 teachers and staff
    • Food and Agriculture
    • Grocery store workers
    • Public transit workers
    • Mail Carriers
    • Officials needed to maintain continuity of government.
    • Manufacturing
  1. How can I sign up for the vaccine?
    • You will be able to call the main number of our health centers to schedule these visits.
  2. Do I have to be a patient of your medical center?
    • We are only giving COVID vaccines at this time to our established patients.
  3. Where can I get the vaccine if I am not your patient?
  4. Which vaccine is your health center using?
    • We will be using the Moderna vaccine
  5. How many doses of vaccine will I require?
    • You will require 2 doses of vaccine given 4 weeks apart
  6. What are the side effects of the vaccine?
    • Most side effects are mild, but you can learn more about the side effects on the Virginia Department of Health Web Site.
  7. How much will the vaccine cost?
    • There is no charge to you for the vaccine.  Your insurance will be billed an administration fee to cover the cost of giving you the vaccine.  The first vaccine administration fee is $20 and the second is $35.  If you do not have insurance or your insurance company does not cover this charge, you will not be responsible for this fee.
  8. Can my baby get this vaccine?
    • You must be over the age of 18 to get the Moderna COVID vaccine.
  9. When will the general population be able to get the COVID vaccine?
    • We are not able to answer that question with 100% certainty, but we hope by late spring.
