Our mission is to provide quality focused, cost-effective, family-based healthcare services with dignity and respect to all people, without regard to their finances, culture or lifestyle, and to provide the information and support to promote their participation in healthcare decisions.
SERVICING SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA SINCE 1984:
Since 1984, Southern Dominion Health System has provided comprehensive primary care services to medically underserved persons in its federally designated service are communities.
Southern Dominion Health System, Inc. is a non-profit organization and FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center), committed to the health care of individuals and families of our community, regardless of race, religion or social status. We currently operate out of six (6) different medical/dental and mental health centers located in Lunenburg, Dinwiddie, Amelia and Greensville Counties. Our valued patients are not restricted to these four counties and we welcome patients from anywhere. We are dedicated to providing health care to everyone, including the medically underserved, uninsured and underinsured. This health center is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n).
SDHS’ services meet the requirements of section 330 of the Public Health Services Act. Services include on-site delivery of all the following: primary care and pediatric; diagnostic laboratory and radiologic services; preventive services; cancer and other disease screenings; well child services; immunizations ; routine health screenings, communicable diseases and cholesterol; services and preventive dental services; emergency medical and dental services; and mental health, and other enabling services. Services are provided by a culturally competent staff cognizant of the importance of patient literacy in a safe and quality environment.
SDHS’ service areas are federally designated as Medically Underserved Areas (MUA) and Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA). Approximately 36.8% of service area residents live below 200% of poverty (2005-2009 America Community Survey).
Southern Dominion Health System, Inc. has a proud tradition of recruiting some of the finest medical, dental and mental health providers available. Many of the providers at SDHS, Inc. have qualified for the National Health Service Corp’s Loan Repayment Program, which helps us attract quality providers to rural areas of need.
